Since graduating in 2013, our Male School Captain, Thomas Menzler has been studying a Bachelor of Business and Law at the QUT. We caught up with Thomas to see what else he has been up to since leaving Holland Park SHS and some memorable moments about the school.

What have you done since graduating?

I started a Bachelor of Commerce at UQ in 2014 before transferring to a Bachelor of Business (Finance)/Bachelor of Law (honours) double degree at QUT in 2015. After my first year at QUT I went on a 12 month student exchange to the University of Glasgow in Scotland. In addition, to regular university study I have been heavily involved in the QUT mooting program, the QUT start-up environment, and business case competitions.

What do you do for a living now?

Since returning from exchange I have spent time competing in numerous extracurricular competitions including winning the QUT PLT Client Interview competition, being a state finalist in the Uber Launch Challenge and pitching to the QLD Chief Entrepreneur in the QUT Starters Start-up Hatch program. I am currently employed as a temporary law clerk at a commercial firm.

Do you think your time at Holland Park helped you to pursue this?

Holland Park provided me a great foundational education which got me the marks I needed to get me where I wanted to go and the knowledge I needed to succeed when I got there.

Do you still live locally?

Apart from my year in Glasgow, I still live in Brisbane.

Did you enjoy your time at Holland Park SHS?

I had a fantastic time at Holland Park. Although, you don’t often realise it when you’re there, school is great fun and never again do you get to spend 5 days a week hanging out with your mates. I look back on my time at school, as many people do, very fondly.

Who was your favourite teacher?

It is probably a tie between Mr Reddy and Mr Habermehl. In senior I had them at different times for Physics, Maths B and Maths C. They weren’t just teachers of the content but also role models for a lot of us in those classes.

Are you still friends with anybody you met at Holland Park?

I’m still great friends with my mates from Holland Park even though some of us have moved temporarily or permanently and we are all increasingly busy, we still catch up pretty often.
