Co-Curricular Music

 
​Jazz, pop, classical, rock and roll – the student musicians of Holland Park State High School’s Instrumental Music program play them all. From beginners to experienced players, there’s an instrumental music class for every student at HPSHS who wants to take his or her musical talents to the next level. Performance groups include a concert band, string orchestra and big band, vocal group, and separate wind, brass, percussion and sax ensembles.
 
Because of the school’s small size, student musicians get more playing time in school ensembles than they would at a larger school. By the time they’re in year 12, many HPSHS musicians have been playing together in school ensembles for years, leading not only to fast friendships, but also to exceptionally tight performances.
 
Holland Park High’s ensembles routinely earn “silver & gold” at the Brisbane Schools Band Festival and the Prestige Music Fest. The Big Band were invited to play for the launch of Child Protection Week at Parliament House, and small ensembles perform at the Mt Gravatt Show.
